The installation “Father’s Paradise” reflects on identity, ideals, and memories. The work comprises photographs taken by a man who cherishes his garden. Iwan Blokland (1938-2014) emigrated from the former Dutch colony Suriname to the Netherlands over 40 years ago. He captured these photographs of his Dutch garden over a period of ten years (1995-2005). The photographs showcase extravagant plant growth and exuberant flowers, not for aesthetic purposes but primarily to bear witness to the constant transformations of the garden.
“Father’s Paradise” consists of 39 garden portraits and one portrait of a man (the photographer of this last picture is unknown).
